Ikegami TM14-20RH (Repaired!)
This Ikegami was purchased with the problem of only displaying the blue color.
Got it home and went right to work. The first thing I think of when color is out, is the main color transistors. And what do you know, Red and Green were shorted! Took a minute but I found some replacement transistors on eBay, and got them in, and Boom! All colors! There was one more problem though, I couldn't get it to display anything, even though I had all colors (the screen was white).
If I gave the monitor input when only blue worked, the monitor worked, and the input showed up...so what was going on!? The way this monitor works is there is a harness for hooking up where the blue goes into the board, same with red and green. To make sure there were no problems before the harness I took the red harness and put it into the blue gun connector, and it worked, so that told me everything before that is likely working. I did the same with green and it also worked, but if I plugged blue or green into the red gun connector, the screen would fritz out, and nothing displayed. This told me there was a problem between that red connector and the red gun. If this doesn't make sense feel free to ask me questions...but anyway, I found a shorted component in that pathway, and replaced it. After replacing it (circled in a photo) and connecting all harnesses to where they're supposed to go, everything worked perfectly!
One of the potentiometer dial/caps was missing, so I was able to dremel an existing one I found and get it to fit onto the contrast pot. Not a perfect match, but hey it works!
These pro model ikegami's produce some of the best colors around. These might be my favorite monitors, and they are built like freaking tanks! Take a look at some of those heat sinks in there, they are HUGE! Plus they have steel face plates!
A whole video review really needs to be done on this set. There is so much going on. You have the option to save three calibrations, it's just incredible. Look at the pull out board too. Overall an excellent monitor, highly recommend it!
The scan lines on this set are very prominent, but the scan line gaps are not huge which is nice. Typically with dot trio masks, the blank spaces between lines are very big, so this tube and picture is overall very unique.
I also just wanted to point out that you can see one of the rack pull mounts is broken, but you can easily remove those handles. They actually didn't come with the monitor, but I left them on because it's easier to move the monitor around with them attached still.
