Commodore 1802 (Repaired!)
Commodore 1802 (Repaired!)
The gorgeous Commodore 1802! What makes this different than the 1702 is that there is a monochrome switch on it, to turn the entire screen all green. Would be useful for certain applications way back then, but not so much today.
I got this monitor cheap, because it had vertical collapse (see the photo). I picked up to see if I could fix it. Upon a visual inspection of the board, a few capacitors looked pretty bad. The only one that tested bad was the one I have a screwdriver pointing to in the photos. I did clean up some solder joints nearby it also, as you can see they are fairly corroded.
Replaced those capacitors, powered it up, and what do you know...all good! Composite, and Chroma/Luma and the audio works great! These 1702/1802 Chroma/Luma monitors look so good. The colors pop, and they have such a charm.
The power LED didn't work, but I was able to reflow some solder, you can see in one of the photo close ups where I ran a green wire, that was to complete a broken circuit for the LED power light. Finished that up, and you can see it's working in one of the photos.
The exterior case on this one has a small hairline crack in it. I've thought about taking it all apart and spraying a few layers of paint on it. I think that would cover the crack up smoothly, and make it look really nice. Perhaps some day!
